Smyth, a thompson hotel sitting area

Ladies and gentlemen,

Planning a visit to NYC soon?

with so many options and places to choose from, one of the most asked questions regarding NYC is where to stay.

Which neighborhood is the best? should you stay near Times Square or SoHo? After that the hard part begins... Which hotel should you book?

5 restaurants to check out while in New York

The Area - Tribeca Neighborhood

Soho Neighborhood cast - iron

SoHo art gallery

The Smyth hotel is located on 85 W Broadway, right in the middle of the trendy TriBeCa neighborhood, just A 5-minute walk from SoHo. A truly prime location. There is a Metro station (Chambers Street Subway Station) right on the street corner which makes this an ideal location for us travelers. Besides that, you are in a walking distance to the One World trade center and Brooklyn Bridge.

New York City is divided into so many neighborhoods, and choosing the right one for your stay can be quite challenging. First timers are always eager to be as close as possible to Times Square because this is what we think will be the ideal location. When you come back to New York for the second time, you know better.

My favorite area in Manhattan is SoHo, and if you ask me, close by is the place to stay. Tons of restaurants, Cafes, and stores of all the brands you can think of, located in low, beautiful, cast-iron buildings. Even some art galleries from older days have remained in the area. If you are looking for a more realistic New York experience, take my advice and consider booking this hotel.

The Smyth hotel

Thompson Hotel - key card

Smyth is a 4-star hotel with 100 rooms ranging from standard to a luxurious panthouse. A New York boutique hotel, and it really lives up to the definition.

The first thing you notice is a nice and warm welcome when you arrive. If it is the doorman, receptionist, or even the cleaning personal, you get great service and a very kind attitude. The staff was great at giving advice about practically everything. For me, service is one of the most important things in a hotel experience, and the staff at the Smyth were top notch.

The hotel's interior is beautifully designed with a mixture of vintage and modern touch. The decor is really influenced by the surrounding TriBeCa neighborhood with art pieces covering the walls. The overall ambiance of the Smyth is warm and makes you wanna stay in and just relax, especially on those cold New York nights.

On the ground floor you will find:

A trendy lobby with a fireplace (for that warm feeling).

Little Park - Restaurant by Chef Andrew Carmellini.

Evening Bar - Cocktail bar by mixologist Anne Robinson.

The bar is seating only so make an early appearance.

Besides that, you can find a fully equipped fitness center and use the complimentary WiFi in all areas of the hotel (rooms included). Parking and laundry service are also available on site with extra charge.

The Room - A King Standard Room

Smyth hotel - Room

I stayed in a stunning King sized-bed room. The 315 Sq ft room (roughly 30 Sq meters) was decorated with contemporary furnishings and warm ambiance which, as mentioned before, characterized the entire hotel. The room was extremely big compared to other NYC hotel rooms.

When you wake up in the morning it so hard to get out of bed, it is so comfortable. Sleeping was delightful. The Bathroom was spacious and beautifully designed with marble texture on the walls, glass-walled, walk-in rain showers and all the amenities one needs. The room is equipped with bathrobes, very comfy slippers (not the generic white ones), free bottled water, minibar, and more.

As you can see, the view wasn't half bad either with my room facing West Broadway St.

A more detailed Video of the room can be seen here:

Bottom line

I definitely recommend staying at the Smyth hotel . Big and comfortable rooms, great staff, all located perfectly in Tribeca. Can't wait to get back to the city and check-in again at this great hotel.

Hope you enjoyed this hotel review. Next time will try a more comprehensive review including the food, fitness center, etc.
