New York - Brooklyn Bridge

Ladies and Gentlemen,

So you made it to New York City, probably the greatest city in the world. This place is not just about attractions, shopping, rooftops and viewpoints, but also boasts a rich culinary culture. This is one fast moving city and so is the food industry here. From well-known food establishments to fresh and newly born restaurants.

A tip for you ladies and gentlemen - Get your phones or cameras ready to snap a few pictures in these Instagram worthy restaurants.

So are you ready to check out some of the great places to eat around here?

Sadelle's at Soho

Located right on the northern border of the famous Soho neighborhood, this restaurant is known for its freshly baked bagels and fish cuts. In a big glass cube right in the middle of the restaurant, you will find the bakery that makes one of the most famous bagels in the city. Besides the long line for take-out, this place is pretty crowded in the mornings. Once you are seated you are presented with a wide variety of options from sandwiches, fish platters, and omeletes to salads, soups and pancakes. The menu can be found HERE.

I had the Healthy egg sandwich with Breakfast potatoes on the side. The omelet is made with only egg whites so it was a risk. But It turned out to be one of the best egg-based sandwiches I ever had.The sandwich on its own was quite enough but the potatoes on the side were a great finisher for this meal. With the combination of some green chili and freshly baked bread from the in-home bakery, it was one delicious risk.

Do notice that there is only one option if you desire to have your morning coffee here - American drip coffee. So if you need your espresso or latte fix in the morning, have your breakfast at Sadelle's and your coffee afterwards. Food is really good, so it will be worth it.

This Michelin recommended (not starred) restaurant is located in the more residential area of Manhattan - Chelsea. Beautifully decorated on the inside, and if the weather is in your favor you can enjoy your food in the open air.

The Cookshop has different menus for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. Each menu is customized with preferred starters, main courses and even drinks and cocktails. You can find the different menus HERE. If I had more time I would have probably tried all four menus.

Cookshop NYC - brunch menu

Just a little heads-up, a lot of people know that this is a great place, so it is packed. I had to wait 15 minutes to get a table, which is not a lot, but when it is morning, 15 minutes feels like forever. So if you have the option to let them know you are coming, do it.

Cookshop - Fried Egg Sandwich

I started Brunch with a double espresso (which was OK) and then moved on to the main courses. To be honest, everything on the menu was interesting and had a twist to it. I had the fried egg sandwich that comes with a side of hash potatoes. The sandwich was a perfect way to start the day. Eggs were cooked the right amount to stay soft but not too watery. It did come in a delicious brioche bun. The hash potatoes were good but not as good as the rest of the dish.

After that, I tried the Cascun farm chicken breast salad which turned out to be really refreshing. The chicken was cooked to a nice degree and you can tell the ingredients were fresh and of top quality.

The Smith

The Smith Nomad

I came across this place totally by accident after finishing up a visit to the Flatiron building (you can even see it in the background). And I was really happy it happened.

The Smith is located right in the heart of the Nomad neighborhood. It features a specific menu for each time of the day - we arrived just in time to try out the lunch menu. You can find the menu HERE.

First of all, this restaurant is huge! You got a pretty big bar and a few seating areas that can accommodate hundreds of people. This place is also pretty packed but I only waited for a few minutes and got a table.

This time I went for something a little more serious. I was really hungry after a full day of walking and was looking for something to hit the spot. And there it was.

The Smith - the smith bar steak

The Smith Bar Steak was simply delicious. A nice slice of prime beef served with a selection of sauce (green peppercorn, garlic herb butter or Chimichurri) and on the side fries or green leaf salad. I would have guessed the steak to be around 250-300g (about 9-11 OZ). The steak was cooked right to the desired degree (I always ask for medium). Leaf salad was refreshing and the fries were great and crispy.

To finish this awesome meal I ordered myself, as usual, a cup of double espresso. Surprisingly enough, the coffee was one of the best I ever had. Who knew it would be at The Smith?

On a side note - This place has great food, but the only downside is that it is really noisy here. It is just other people talking, but if you set your mind to a quiet location, get yourself ready.

The Smith has a few locations you can choose from - Nomad, Lincoln Square, Midtown, East Village.

While We Were Young

while we were young - entrance

This little gem is located in West Village. Compared to the previous restaurants on this list, which were big and crowded, the While we were young is a more intimate and cozy establishment. After a long day of soaking in New York, just a little pause was just what I needed, and it was the perfect place for that.

This place is decorated with light colors and kinda vintage interior design. The entire atmosphere is relaxing and pleasing. With some nice music in the background, you get great vibes while sitting here. You can choose to sit at the white marble bar, tables, counter over-looking the street or if the weather allows it, at the tables outside. But I think now it is time to talk about the most important part of every restaurant right?

The entire menu sounds appealing and interesting - you can find it HERE. As soon as I saw the Kobe Burger, that was a no-brainer. It was one of the best burgers I had in New York and probably one of the best I had in my life. With no crazy toppings and extra effort, this burger was simply tasty. I don't know what made it so good. Maybe the flavor of the meat, maybe the brioche bun or the dressing - But the combination works! Right next to the burger, you get some home-made fries that were the perfect ending to this meal.

The While we were young Definitely deserves another visit the next time I'm in town.

Last but not least, you actually get a small pack of gummy bears when you ask for the bill. That's quite a nice touch.

Shake Shack

I know what you're going to say: "Shake Shack? Really?" Well, why not?

Shake Shack is on this list because it is simply a place you gotta visit if you come to New York. It is one of the most known food chains in New York in recent years.

We all get that feeling sometimes, you just have a craving for fast food, and if it is made with quality ingredients, even better. This place will be the perfect solution to your problems.

I had my mandatory stop at Shake Shack in the Fulton Center. There was a line, but they speed things up over there and in no time you have your food ready.

I went for the ShackBurger and tried for the first time the Chick'n Shack. Both were good, but the ShackBurger has the lead here. The meat is delicious and soft, the bun was just the right size to accompany all the goodness that comes inside it. Fries brings up a nostalgic feeling to the meal with the classic zigzag shape. It was crispy just as it should be.

I'm really not surprised why Shake shack joints still have so many people (local and foreign) that don't mind standing in line to order those awesome, tasty burgers.

Besides the burgers, the menu includes something for everyone.
